Now Get COVID-19 Tested at Both of Costa Rica’s Airports

COVID-19 tests in the airport are now a reality in Costa Rica. Most recently, a laboratory was put in just under half a mile from the main international terminal of the Juan Santamaria Airport. In April, the Daniel Oduber International Airport welcomed a new laboratory in their already award-winning airport. This advancement is thanks to their partnership with Echandi Laboratories, one of the most well-respected labs in the country.

As well all know, most countries require a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours before flying home. While there are many options around the country for these tests, travelers flying out of Costa Rica will especially appreciate this option.

Rapid Antigen Testing at the SJO Airport

There is a new Echandi Laboratory, just beyond the airport near San Jose. Here they conduct rapid antigen testing and offer results in an hour or less. Since the lab is not located within the main airport itself, for traffic congestion reasons, 24 hour transport service is available, as well as a parking lot for travelers with a rental car. The cost of the rapid antigen testing is currently $65 and is delivered electronically or in print.

Echandi Laboratory’s does recommend making an appointment to make sure you get tested with enough time before your flight. You can make your testing appointment here.

Rapid Antigen Testing at the Liberia Airport

They’re offering rapid antigen testing at the airport. Echandi Laboratory’s goal is to give test results within an hour of the appointment. However, we recommend scheduling your test at least 3-4 hours prior to your flight to ensure a smooth and stress-free departure.

You can also receive your rapid COVID-19 tests by email or in-person. The results come with a QR code to facilitate the airline’s negative result verification when checking you into your flight.  Schedule an appointment with Echandi Laboratories or show up the same day: it’s up to you.

Remember, there are labs all over the country where you can get coronavirus testing. You can find both the rapid antigen testing, which usually gives you results within a day, as well as the PCR testing. Many labs offering PCR tests in Costa Rica aim to get you results within 24-48 hours and definitely before 72 hours.
