Macaw Lodge is located in the hills and lush forests of Cerros de Turrubares, in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica. It is about a 25-minute drive (9.7 km or 6 miles) east of Carara National Park, about an hour northeast of Jaco Beach, and about 2 hours (85.9 km or 53 miles) southwest of the Juan Santamaria International Airport.

Macaw Lodge, a mountain eco-resort set on a 264-acre private reserve, is located just east of Carara National Park, near the Turrubares Hills Forest Reserve and the Fernando Castro Cervantes Wildlife Refuge. The Lodge, cabins, and other buildings are crafted of reclaimed or sustainably grown materials from the reserve and surrounding communities. This Eco-resort is completely off the grid – solar power is used to generate electricity and heat water. The spacious, open ground floor of the Lodge is home to the restaurant, lounging area, internet access, electronics charging center, lending library, and bathrooms. It is surrounded by a lush tropical garden with over 500 species of ornamental, medicinal, and agricultural plants, and provides guests with amazing views of surrounding ponds, gardens, forests, and wildlife.

The on-site restaurant offers hearty meals based on fruits, vegetables, and herbs from the garden along with meats, eggs, and other products sourced locally. The property features 8 acres of cultivated paths where guests can wander through a giant black bamboo forest, hike to a waterfall and take a refreshing dip or enjoy a relaxing break in a gazebo overlooking the pond. Macaw Lodge also has two open-air yoga decks, a fruit and cocoa orchard, and a sustainable farming operation where guests can learn more about hydroponics, aquaponics, vermiculture, and composting.

There are a variety of activities that guests can enjoy in and around Macaw Lodge, including birdwatching, night walks, a sustainable living tour, a chocolate tour, private excursions to the beach to enjoy kayaking, fishing, canoeing, snorkeling, and more.
